Report filed examines prebankruptcy financial management
June 10, 2004

On April 15, 2004, Samuel R. Maizel, from the firm's Los Angeles office, was appointed as examiner in the bankruptcy cases of Metropolitan Mortgage & Securities Inc. and Summit Securities Inc., currently pending in Spokane, Washington. Jeremy V. Richards and Jonathan J. Kim, also from the Los Angeles office, served as counsel to the examiner. On June 8, 2004, they filed a more than 250-page report on the financial issues raised by the two company's pre-bankruptcy business and accounting practices. The report asks for authorization to continue the examination for a limited period of time in order to retain experts and resolve certain issues that could not be resolved in the short time authorized for the initial phase of the examination.
