Irvine-based subprime lender People's Choice Home Loan has selected attorneys Jeremy Richards and Jeffrey Dulberg of Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP as their chapter 11 counsel.
As a wave of customer defaults swept through the subprime mortgage lending industry in late 2006, reports of lenders seeking refuge from margin calls and buyback requirements placed on the warehouse lines and repossession agreement fundamental to their operations exploded. Without the confidence of the equity markets behind them, subprime mortgage lenders have been painted into a corner amid rising interest rates and customer turmoil.
Sam Maizel is a contributing Author to the recently published second edition of Business Workouts Manual (Thomson/West). The manual offers authoritative analysis and practical guidance from the nation's leading authorities on all aspects of the business workout. The text includes full coverage of the process of developing a strategy, general workout analysis, working with other creditors, and consensus development. Sam, a nationally recognized expert in restructuring healthcare industry entities, contributed Chapter 31, "Workout Issues in the Healthcare Industry."
On October 1, 2006, Malhar Pagay became the chair of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association, a nationally recognized, 75-year old, major metropolitan bar association based in Beverly Hills, California. With over 3,600 members, it is the largest voluntary bar association in California that is not a county bar association.

General Media, Inc. was listed in Turnarounds & Workouts as one of the ten most successful restructurings in 2004. "Penthouse publisher General Media reorganized through full payment plan to creditors as Penthouse Media Group, preserving and enhancing value of estate and global brand." Rob Feinstein, managing partner of the New York office of Pachulski, Stang, Ziehl, Young & Weintraub, represented the renowned publisher of Penthouse Magazine in its chapter 11 case. General Media is also engaged in internet, entertainment, and trademark licensing businesses.
Today, after many twists and turns, the Debtors' Fourth Amended Plan of Reorganization was confirmed in General Media, exactly one year to the day from the petition date. Whereas unsecured creditors and Penthouse founder Bob Guccione were threatened with extinction at the beginning of the case, unsecured creditors will receive cash and notes representing full payment of their claims, and Guccione will get a ten-year agreement and be paid $500,000 per year whether or not he works in his twilight years.
