Jeffrey L. Kandel

October 8, 2019

We mourn the loss of our colleague Jeff Kandel, who passed away on September 28, 2019, nine months after receiving a cancer diagnosis, and just a few months after his 60th birthday. Jeff epitomized greatness—a phenomenal, thorough attorney, a great mentor, and a great friend. Jeff knew what was important in life, and always made time for his family, friends, and co-workers. His wisdom, sage advice, and sense of humor were unfaltering. Jeff led by example, showing kindness, compassion, humility, and love to all who surrounded him. It was a privilege and honor to have him as a friend and co-worker.

Jeff represented debtors and creditors' committees throughout Southern and Central California, both in chapter 11 proceedings and in out-of-court workouts. Between 1993 and 2009, he specialized at Feld Winters Financial in the investment of bond proceeds for municipalities, schools, and hospitals and in arranging derivative products in connection with tax-exempt bond issues. He remained CEO of Feld Winters Financial where, among other things, he assisted clients in assessing and addressing issues arising as a result of the bankruptcy of the various Lehman Brothers entities. Jeff graduated from UCLA School of Law, where he worked on the UCLA Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif.

Jeff will be sorely missed. He leaves behind his wife Nancy and three children, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
