American College of Bankruptcy Chair of the Board of Regents Richard E. Mikels Joins Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP

October 2016

Richard E. Mikels, founder and chair of international law firm Mintz Levin’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice, has joined Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP (PSZJ), the nation’s leading restructuring boutique, effective October 2, 2016. Mr. Mikels is one of the most prominent restructuring attorneys in the nation. He is chair of the Board of Regents of the American College of Bankruptcy and previously served as its national vice president, a member of its board of directors and chair of its Education Programs Committee. Additionally, Mr. Mikels served on the board of directors of the American Bankruptcy Institute and, in 2012, was co-chair of the Plan Advisory Committee for the ABI’s Commission to Study the Reform of Chapter 11. Mr. Mikels has also served as an adjunct professor at Boston University Law School for the past nine years. He will be resident in PSZJ’s New York office and will add tremendous value to PSZJ’s nationwide restructuring practice.

Mr. Mikels chose PSZJ over several suitors because of his desire to practice in New York at a leading firm that is known for its excellence in the restructuring field. He also chose PSZJ because the firm provides an excellent platform for debtor, creditors' committee, and conflicts counsel representations.

“Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones is one of the premier restructuring law firms in America. Anyone who practices restructuring law knows that the firm attracts the brightest restructuring professionals and, having been on both the same and opposing sides of cases as them, I know that they are fair and tough,” says Mr. Mikels. “Joining a firm with an East Coast presence with the likes of Laura Davis Jones and Rob Feinstein is a tremendous opportunity that I am very much anticipating,” he adds.

“The bankruptcy community knows Rick Mikels well,” says Laura Davis Jones, name partner and managing partner of PSZJ’s Delaware office. “Having Rick join us comes straight out of our playbook. His expertise and skill set complement our practice so well,” she states.

Rob Feinstein, managing partner of PSZJ’s New York office, adds that “Rick is a great addition to the PSZJ team and we are thrilled to have him join us. Even though he is a Red Sox fan, we enthusiastically welcome him to the New York office.”

PSZJ currently represents debtors American Apparel, Delivery Agent, Emerald Oil and Magnum Hunter Resources, among many other companies, and creditors’ committees in Aeropostale, The Sports Authority, A&P Supermarkets, International Shipholding Corp., among others, throughout the United States.
