International Longshore and Warehouse Union
Representation as bankruptcy counsel of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) in its chapter 11 case in the Northern District of California. Established in 1937, the debtor represents tens of thousands of dock workers primarily on the West Coast, Hawaii, and in British Columbia. With the firm’s assistance, the union successfully negotiated a settlement in its subchapter V (chapter 11) case of highly contentious, longstanding disputes with the debtor’s largest creditor (initially awarded more than $90m by a jury ). With a favorable settlement, the chapter 11 case was voluntarily dismissed and the ILWU continues to operate as usual and serve its members.
