Not Your Typical Bankruptcy Case: Reorganizing Under Chapter 11 to Pay Sexual Abuse Claims

CACB Summer 2022 Extern and Law Clerk Bankruptcy Educational Program Series July 12, 2022

On July 12, in conversation with Judge Erithe A. Smith as part of the Central District of California  bankruptcy court’s education programs series, Gillian Brown discussed her career path as a bankruptcy litigator and her experience representing unsecured creditor committees that represent sexual abuse survivors in chapter 11 cases. These cases often involve the voluntary chapter 11 filing of religious institutions, which adds a layer of unique legal and factual issues.
