June 3, 2019

Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP is pleased to announce that longtime partner Debra Grassgreen has been elected as the next President of the International Insolvency Institute (III). Her two-year term will start on June 17, 2019.

The International Insolvency Institute, one of the most prestigious insolvency organizations in the world, is a non-profit, limited-membership organization dedicated to advancing and promoting insolvency as a respected discipline in the international field. Its primary objectives include improving international co-operation in the insolvency area and achieving greater co-ordination among nations in multinational business reorganizations and restructurings.

Along with Ms. Grassgreen, the Hon. Shelley Chapman (Bankruptcy Court Southern District of NY), Pekka Jaatinen, and Justice Kannan Ramesh (High Court of Singapore) have been appointed to serve on III’s Executive Committee as Vice Presidents. John Martin will continue to serve as Vice President for a second term. Past Presidents of III are Bruce Leonard, Donald Bernstein, Hon. James Peck (Ret.) and Alan Bloom.

Ms. Grassgreen has served as Executive Vice President of III since 2017. Additionally, she participates in the United Nations working group (UNCITRAL) that has been developing a uniform international insolvency law and materials to assist countries in the adoption and implementation of insolvency legislation. She has been named by the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal as one of the top 100 women lawyers in California, and is listed in “Who’s Who Legal: Thought Leaders—Global Elite 2019” as one of only seven U.S.-based lawyers listed for Restructuring and Insolvency.

Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones regularly represents domestic companies engaged in international commercial activities and foreign entities doing business, or involved in litigation or transactions, in the United States. The firm has long lasting working relationships with counsel in many countries throughout the world; works with its international clients on a variety of complex financing, restructuring, general corporate and debtor-creditor matters; and is often recognized for its experience in international or "cross border" insolvency cases.
