Pachulski Stang Selected as Committee Counsel in San Diego Hospice & Palliative Care Corporation

February 2013

Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP has been selected to serve as counsel to the official committee representing unsecured creditors in the chapter 11 bankruptcy of San Diego Hospice & Palliative Care Corporation in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego, California. The hospice filed for bankruptcy protection on February 4, 2013, as a result of ongoing operational losses and disputes with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services over payments under the Medicare program. The hospice was founded in 1977.  Before the bankruptcy filing, the nonprofit hospice provided specialized care to over 4,000 patients facing terminal illness annually. The hospice has filed a motion asking for permission to sell most of its assets, including a closed 24-bed in-patient facility, to Scripps Health for $10.7 million. The committee is composed of the following creditors: Brookwood Crossroads Investors, Medline Industries, Outcome Resources, GlenBrook Skilled Nursing and Departure.
