PSZJ’s Representation of the Creditors’ Committee in Roman Catholic Archbishop of San Francisco Case Covered by NBC Bay Area
April 16, 2025Brittany Michael, counsel to the official creditors’ committee in the bankruptcy of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco, was featured in an NBC Bay Area broadcast covering the recent groundbreaking disclosure order granted in the case by Judge Dennis Montali. PSZJ continues to represent the committee in this bankruptcy, which consists of survivors of sexual abuse.
In its report, NBC Bay Area covers the recent decision by the bankruptcy court requiring the Archdiocese to release 175 pages of internal meeting minutes from its Independent Review Board, documents the church had sought to keep sealed. In her interview, Brittany called the release the first of its kind in any diocesan bankruptcy, noting, “This is the first time I can say in a bankruptcy case that an archdiocese had to make these minutes public.”
The decision builds on the court’s broader efforts to prioritize nonmonetary relief and transparency, particularly around how the Archdiocese’s internal review process has handled survivor accounts.
The committee, represented by PSZJ attorneys including Brittany, James Stang, and Gail Greenwood, continues to push for transparency and survivor participation throughout the bankruptcy proceedings.
