Roman Catholic Church for the Archdiocese of New Orleans
Representation of the official creditors’ committee in the chapter 11 case of the Archdiocese of New Orleans in the Eastern District of Louisiana. The case involved the claims of over 650 men and women who were sexually abused, as well as complex issues of the constitutionality of the Louisiana statute of limitations “window” for child sex-abuse cases and third-party releases for the benefit of Archdiocese affiliates and other entities. In December 2025, the court confirmed a $230 million settlement plan establishing a trust to be distributed to the survivors, funded with $65 million from the archdiocese, $65 million from its parishes and charities, $30 million from settling insurers, and $70 million in anticipated proceeds. A settlement in principle, subject to documentation with an additional insurance company, should increase the total to $305 million.
